Dermaplaning is a type of exfoliation that helps remove dull dead skin and vellus hair (peach fuzz) from the face. It is also called microplaning, microblading, skin blading.
It is sometimes confused with dermabrasion but unlike dermabrasion there is no risk of infection, irritation or scarring with dermaplaning.
The process is safe and painless with no down time (your skin will be glowing and radiant but not red, swollen or irritated).
It involves using a scalpel (a surgical blade) and gentle feathering strokes to remove up to 22 layers of dead skin cells along with any vellus hair. This treatment is a safe option for women who are looking for a deep exfoliation without the use of chemicals or abrasives. It is even safe for women who are pregnant or nursing. The skin will immediately appear brighter and smoother. Additionally, it leaves the skin perfectly prepped for deeper treatments such as peels and for better absorption of home care products such as serums and peptides. Makeup will also go on more smoothly and evenly for a flawless finish.
Unlike popular belief, vellus hair will not grow darker or thicker. Unlike terminal hair (e.g. men’s facial hair, leg hair, scalp hair) which is thicker, vellus is fine and light and grows back the same (at the same rate and with the same texture as before).
Dermaplaning is safe for all skin types except anyone with active acne breakouts, these must be cleared for this type of treatment.
Dermaplaning is painless and safe. There are no side effects and zero downtime. The procedure removes 21 days worth of dead skin cells and can be scheduled 21 days apart to allow your skin to complete its rejuvenation cycle. The removal of dead skin cells stimulates the skin to produce fresh new cells and increase cellular turnover which slows down as we age. You skin will also look more radiant with more even skin tone and texture.
